We are thrilled to share the story of our latest project – a beautifully handcrafted Curved Garden Bench designed for the Mangaturuturu Hut, perched on the scenic slopes of Mount Ruapehu in the breathtaking Tongariro National Park.

Crafting Comfort Amidst Alpine Beauty

This bench is more than just a piece of furniture; it’s a testament to craftsmanship and an enhancement to one of New Zealand's most treasured landscapes. Positioned to offer a stunning view of Mount Ruapehu, the bench provides a comfortable resting spot for weary trampers, allowing them to soak in the natural beauty of the park.

The Perfect Choice for Harsh Environments

The Ethan curved bench was an ideal choice for this alpine location. Built from premium hardwood and constructed with materials designed to endure the extreme conditions of snow and heat, it promises durability and longevity. The bench replaced an original stone seat that had been in place for many years but was starting to decay. The history of the old seat was honoured by using the original stones as the base for the new  bench.

A Generous Donation

This beautiful bench was kindly donated by Brian Carter, an early member of the Whanganui Tramping Club. Established in 1952, the Club has grown to approximately 250 members and continues to foster a love for tramping and the great outdoors.

Historical Roots and Recent Improvements

The Mangaturuturu Hut, built around 1956 by Club members and officially opened in 1958, is a cherished site for many. It has seen numerous trampers pass through its doors and has undergone significant improvements in recent years to ensure it remains a welcoming shelter.

Ethan Outdoor Furniture: Proudly Supporting New Zealand’s Parks

Ethan Outdoor Furniture is proud to supply its Garden Benches to many regional parks in the Whanganui area and throughout New Zealand. Having one of our Curved Benches located in Tongariro National Park is a particular honor. As New Zealand’s oldest national park and a dual World Heritage area, Tongariro holds a special place in the hearts of many.

A Legacy for Future Trampers

We hope this bench will be enjoyed by many trampers for years to come, offering a place to rest and reflect amidst one of New Zealand's most beautiful settings. It stands as a symbol of the enduring connection between people and the natural world, providing comfort and a moment of respite in a place of unparalleled beauty.

Thank you, Brian Carter, and the Whanganui Tramping Club, for your dedication and contributions to preserving and enhancing our natural heritage.
